Makeup that still looks like you at midnight

Willow Current is a small bridal studio run by Nerida Wolfe. We work in your getting-ready room, build the base around your skin rather than over it, and stay until the first photographs are done.

  • Trial before every booking
  • One artist, up to five faces
  • Travel within the county included

Two weddings a weekend, and the diary is kept honest

Saturdays book around twelve months ahead; Fridays and Sundays often open up later in the season. A date is held for seven days once we have agreed the timings, and nothing is confirmed until you have had your trial.

What we do

Three ways to book the studio

Every booking includes a trial, a written timing plan for the morning, and touch-up colour left with whoever is holding your bag.

For the bride

The Bride

A two-hour trial first, then the wedding morning itself. We photograph the trial in daylight and in flash so you can see how the finish behaves in both, and adjust before the day rather than on it.

  • 120 min trial
  • 90 min on the day
  • From £420
  • Skin mapping and a base built in thin layers
  • Two finishes tried at the trial: polished and barely-there
  • Lash options from individual clusters to a full strip
  • Lip and powder left with you in a small tin
02 Pale wedding flowers resting on linen in the getting-ready room

For the people beside you

Bridal Party

Mothers, sisters, friends and anyone else in the room. One artist comfortably covers five faces alongside the bride; beyond that we bring a second pair of hands so the schedule does not slide.

  • 40 min each
  • Up to 5 per artist
  • From £75 each
  • A running order sent a fortnight before, by name and time
  • Skin-tone matched bases carried in every depth
  • Quieter looks for anyone who rarely wears makeup
  • Flower girls and younger guests: lip balm and a little shimmer only
03 Makeup brushes and cream colour pots laid out on a work surface

Beyond the wedding day

Editorial & Celebration

Engagement shoots, the night-before dinner, anniversary portraits and the second celebration some couples hold months later. Shorter sittings, heavier on colour, and no trial needed unless you want one.

  • 60 min sitting
  • Studio or on location
  • From £150
  • Built for camera: matte through the centre, light at the edges
  • Colour direction agreed from your moodboard beforehand
  • Half-day rates for shoots with more than one change

How the day runs

The morning, hour by hour

Timings are written backwards from when the photographer wants you dressed. This is the shape most mornings take for a bride plus three.

  • T–4h

    Arrival and set-up

We find the best window in the room and work facing it. Chairs, a table and about a metre of space is all that is needed.

  • T–3h

    Party first

Anyone who needs to be finished early goes first — usually whoever is dressing the bride or holding a baby.

  • T–2h

    Bride, part one

Skin prep, base and eyes. Deliberately unhurried, with a pause for water and the last of the party's touch-ups.

  • T–1h

    Bride, part two

Lashes, lip, powder and the final pass in the light you will actually be photographed in. Veil and dress go on after.

  • T–15m

    Last look

A check once you are dressed, then the touch-up tin handed to whoever is carrying your things for the day.

Preparation

The looks file: what makes makeup last

Longevity is mostly decided in the four weeks before the wedding, not in the ninety minutes on the morning. Here is what actually moves the needle.

Skincare and base products arranged on a pale surface
Base notes — thin layers, set only where you shine, and nothing new in the final fortnight.
Close view of a finished bridal base in daylight, skin still looking like skin
Finish notes — cream under powder holds through warm rooms far better than powder alone.

Four weeks out

  • Finish any course of facials or peels now, not later
  • Settle on one moisturiser and stay with it
  • Book brow shaping for two weeks before, never the week of

The week of

  • No new actives, retinoids or strong exfoliants
  • Lip balm morning and night — dry lips show in close-ups
  • Drink more water than feels necessary

On the morning

  • Clean, product-free skin; we prep from scratch
  • Eat something before you sit down
  • Wear a shirt that unbuttons rather than a jumper

Questions

Asked before almost every booking

Is the trial really necessary?
For the bride, yes — it is included in the price and it is where the decisions get made. We test how your skin behaves over two hours, try a polished and a softer version, and photograph both. Party members do not need one.
How far do you travel, and is it charged?
Travel within the county is included. Beyond that we add mileage at cost, and for very early starts a long way out we will suggest staying nearby the night before and tell you what that adds before you commit.
How many people can one artist cover?
The bride plus five, comfortably, in a four-hour window. If your group is larger, a second artist joins for the morning. We would rather bring help than rush the last two chairs.
What if my skin is sensitive or reactive?
Tell us at enquiry. We carry fragrance-free and mineral-only bases, and the trial doubles as a wear test — if something does not sit well, there are four weeks to change it. Patch testing for lash adhesive is available on request.
Do I have to have lashes?
No. Many brides prefer a tightline and a few individual clusters at the outer corner, which photographs softer than a full strip. We try both at the trial and you decide on the day, not before.
What happens if our date moves?
We carry your booking to a new date wherever the diary allows, and your trial still counts. If the new date is already taken, we will say so straight away and recommend two artists whose work we know well.
